‘A monk asked master Tozan, “How can we escape the cold and heat?” Tozan replied, “Why not go where there is no cold and heat?” “Is there such a place?” the monk asked. Tozan commented, “When cold, be thoroughly cold; when hot, be hot through and through.’
Likewise, when you cry let it all out, and when you smile, smile your heart out. That’s Zen attitude to me. Zen isn’t about being happy all the time, it’s about being what you are at the moment. If you’re happy, be happy. If you’re sad, be sad. Just don’t cling to either, because neither of them will last. Don’t try to prolong the moment nor to get rid of it. Observe, deal with it and let go’.
